Katie's first haircut

She's three now, I guess I should get her hair taken care of? She was such a bald baby and her hair grows so slow, that I have put it off as long as possible. After her first haircut disaster grew out, we went to Monkey-Dooz to get her mane trimmed. There wasn't a whole lot that could be done, but at least it's all one length now.

Easter

I'm still lamenting the loss of my camera and I am procrastinating buying a new one. So I got some film developed. Now, this film was OLD. like YEARS old. The camera crapped out right before Easter and I was frantically digging through my dad's old camera bag for a roll of film. So after many attempts at photoshopping the grainy green hue out of the pictures, this was the best I could do. The kids all coordinate, but you can't see that now. Sarah's dress is lavender with red bugs and flowers on the bottom. Katie's is blue, as is Shawn's shirt.

Sleeping through the night...or not

I have learned if I feed Shawn some solids at dinner time that he will sleep through the night. After the rough evening I had, I was really looking forward to a long night's sleep.
Baby is still asleep, he probably will be for another 2 or 3 hours, but THE GIRLS ARE AWAKE. "but the sun is up, mom". Yes, and now I am too. again. Yet another night of 5-6 hours of sleep. John says "oh, since you are up, you are gunna make breakfast, right?" and then went back to bed. I think me eyeballs are gunna fall out of their sockets. They are only held in by the swollen bags under my eyes. I am having a Mary Kay party in a week. You are invited, by the way, lemme know if you wanna come. The consultant better bring some sort of miracle eye bag fighter.

MAYBE this means the girls will be so tired at 2 or 3 that they will BOTH take a nap. YES! today is playdate, they WILL be super tired. Mattress, I'd like to schedule an appt at 2:30, please.

A family heirloom found

About 18 years ago, John's grandfather passed away. Amos Warren was a small man with a good sense of humor. He had a beautiful garden, could fish better than anyone, and owned a roofing business. When he died, John was 10 years old. In dividing grandpa Warren's belongings, it was decided that the truck he used for his roofing business would have to be sold. John did NOT like that, but who listens to a 10 year old? That is the one thing of Grandpa's that he wanted, but they didn't have the room, or desire to keep it around, no matter how much the little boy pleaded. he cried and cried. Every time my dear husband drags me to a car show and sees an ols Studebaker truck, he tells me how much he wanted that truck and how much he cried when it was sold.
Today he found it.
He was chatting with his boss during lunch about cars and trucks, what they have laying around, etc. His boss said he has an old Studebaker pick-up. John replied with the story about the roofing truck, sold when he was 10, and how he loved that truck.
boss:"Was it silver?"
John:"yes!"
"I have it. It's in my backyard. There's tar on it."
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"His name was Amos Warren, you would have bought it from my Uncle Ross."
"Yes, I'm sure that's the name on the title."
"Would you be willing to sell it?"
"Well, let me look through my paperwork and see how much I've got into it. I've got the title and everything"

He called me and it sounded like he was choked up. I called his mom and she also shed tears.
SO...........Anyone want to buy a 1969 Chevy C-10 with a blown (probably rebuild-able) motor and help John's dream come true? Having this truck will compliment the 1932 wood stove we have of Grandma's. Two of the things they used the most.

Shawns milestones and more

He is doing a few new things. Last night I put him out in the living room to sleep (we only have a 2bdrm house) and I didn't give in and feed him when he woke up at 2am. He didn't even cry that much and he went back to sleep, saving me some sleep, too. So why am I still so tired this morning? I usually just dream feed whenever he makes a peep when he was only a foot away, but now I have to actually GET OUT of bed, and that makes a difference. So close to truly sleeping through the night. And I love that he goes down so well. He lets us know when he is tired (I hope he not turn into a whiny boy later when he gets tired) and I just put him in a dark quiet room and he's soon out.

He was probably able to sleep longer because I made sure he ate some good oatmeal at dinner. He had it twice yesterday. Still no veggies or anything, just oatmeal, but he likes it, despite the sour face he gave me last night.

This also makes a difference in his diapers. TMI ALERT!!! I've been feeding him so much at night that he'd wake up soaked every morning. Or he'd poo and leak. Well now that he has solids and no night feedings, that has recified both situations and he had a semi-dry diaper this morning. So nice.

John has been working at the landfill for a week and a half now. It's his first experience really working with the general public and he is having an interesting time of it. It's not an issue, he just can't believe some people. Thier stupidity or whatever, and what perfectly good things they throw out. You just have to smile and turn a blind eye. Fortunatley he drives his motorcycle to work every day and doesn't have room to bring home goodies from the dump. (wow, so far this is sounding really redneck. You could call it dumpster diving or cheap, but I call it being "frugal") but yesterday it rained and he took the car. He came home with a perfectly good meat smoker, with chips and all, and a heavy duty extension cord for the shop. He came home and made smoked porkchops for dinner. yumm-o.

I still feel like a am a better BBQer than him, so maybe I'll have to let him smoke the flavor into the meat and then I'LL cook it. He has a bad habit of flipping the meat too often and that makes it tough. They think women can't grill, so we get classes on it in Relief Society, but people assume men already know how to do it, so they recieve no formal training on the subject. John, I think, believes that since he has camped all his life and went on a mission to the BBQ state, that he has some supernal knowledge about cooking with fire, which is just not true. I will have to keep a lookout for the classes they teach at Ranch and Home around Fathers day.

Speaking of which, we treated ourselves early to our mothers and fathers day gifts. Well, mine will be right on time. I got a new desktop that will probably take me a whole day to transfer files. He got a PS3 and will probably drive me nuts with it. We got it more for the internet and blu-ray player, not for the games. He said I didn't spend enough money, because I didn't order a new monitor as well. I have a huge clunky monitor and he is sick of looking at it. I also need to either repair, or get a new camera. Mine turned off one day mid picture and won't come back on depspite all attempts. This has made me miss some very important stuff for Shawn, like eating his first foods, and the naked butt on the bear skin rug pic I always do at 5 months before they can crawl. He is SO close to crawling!

Sarah is all signed up for Kindergarten and will be going to the "early learning center". All the classes from 4 nearby schools will be in one building. This will make it easier to pool rescources and able to keep kids the whole day in a Kinder-Care program if they choose. Luckily, it's much closer to home than the school she would have gone to. Katie is also registered for the co-op preschool that Sarah is in now. I was re-elected as the laziest board member Vice President of the co-op and had to make a public apology at our meeting this week for sucking at keeping up our class website.

Wow, this turned into a much longer post than I had planned, but oh well, now you are in the loop!
